Wow……… I just came back from Red Hook this weekend and saw the bakery. As a child I remembered it being Larsen’s bakery.

How could I ever forget the wonderful aroma eminating from there. I remember buying coffee cake and crumb cake from the bakery at 20 to 25 cents a box. (The box was the size of the now Entemann’s box) . I was a kid then but my Mother would send me to the bakery. I remember some of the ladies who worked there. Going back gave me warm memories of the bakery. The bakery entrance was in the corner where now they have a small food store. When I saw that giant picture I never remembered seeing it as a child though. Neither was my sister who was with me. We missed that.

When I was a small child I remember going to Larsen’s Bakery and one of the ladies who worked there would give me a big chocolate chip cookie that was just baked. We lived on LuQuer and Court St., right opposite St. Mary Star of the Sea Church and would walk to Larsen’s every week. A great memory!

I remember going to Larsen’s all the time. One of the girls that we grew up with and lived in my building in the projects? Jo-Ann Miller..her dad was a baker at Larsen’s. He was always bring cakes home…wasn’t the smells great? I loved the white bread(the loaf),we would get it sliced…yummmmmm…And the day old buns were good also..The paintings that are on the building today? They were not there when we were kids. I guess the hipsters or the newbies in the neighborhood like that…

My grandmother lived in two different apts. One on clinton st. across from the Clinton theater and the other on lorraine st. across from the ballpark, next to the pool. I loved the crumb cake from Larsens bakery. That was back in the 50’s. I now live in San Diego(for 40 yrs.) but I still long for Larsens crumb cake.

I remember going there right after swimming in the pool. And the aroma was awesome you smell it a couple of blocks away. I would get those large cookies and chocolate layer cake. Sweet memories. I used to live in the back on Wolcott street back in the 60’s and I always remember those good times.
