Driving up Rte 171 in Northeast Pennsylvania, past Carbondale and through Forest City, you will start seeing signs for Cable’s Store. A clever folk art ad campaign indeed, created by current owner Aunt Terry. Her son Jhared & nephew Ian were excellent historians. Established in 1910, Cable’s is a great place for a hoagy or soda or whatever else you need on a gorgeous Autumn afternoon in PA!

Klots Throwing Company opened in Carbondale, Pennsylvania in 1894 by Henry D. Klots “to use available workforce of wives and daughters of local coal miners.” Read about Katherine Nougle, an indentured silk throwster from 1392 London.
