Jump’s documentation of Americana is more than just the result of an obsessive-compulsive collector’s impulse. He explains in his blog that he is inspired by the symbolic parallels between objects that outlive their expected life span and stories of human fade-outs. For Jump, a fading ad is an urban testament to survival, the advertising equivalent of a flower growing in a crack of the sidewalk. STEPHANIE HEISE

Even More Greenpoint Walls – Digging Deeper Into the Digital Archives

These were taken over a year ago at the terminus of Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint. Miss Heather had sent me her own snaps of these first two walls and I featured them in early March 2008. I’ve finally found the files in which they were residing.  The top ad is an ad for a Men’s Clothing Store on Walker Street. See the Park Slope version of the same ad.

This was sent from David Mills-

Hi Frank

The photos are from a building in Globe Arizona an old mining town. The building was constructed in 1938 located at 401 North Broad Street in Globe Arizona. The majority of the buildings in the town are brick construction, however, at some point in time the property owners started to stucco over the top of the brick. Sometime in the past couple years the stucco was removed and the ads were underneath the stucco.

I saw your blog, you must have spent some time on that one. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your photos.

Thanks

David Mills

Thanks David!
