Just an ok pix. Comet Laundry was a much better photo. I liked the snow melting with the footprints of people who walk on by as life just keeps going by……..

Regarding your comment, “I worry that Americans are consumers first and producers second”

No disrespect, but you must consume the food to make a crap.

I absorb what you are saying but have no worry- consumerism is good and so is art if you can sell it. (lol)

As organisms, we are inherently consumers. A buddy of mine sent out a holiday message about the mountains of materials, lakes of oil and liquids, mountainsides of animals an individual consumes during the course of its lifetime to sustain its biological and metabolic systems. The sight would be alarming and the din would be deafening.

Compared to what we actually produce as individuals, aside from progeny, that we feel is worthwhile – the amount seems more finite. Our art (to which we attach monetary value) also has a therapeutic value. Our blogs are a good example of this.

But as a teacher, it is my job to motivate in young people the desire to produce. Our economy would crumble (as we have witnessed this past consumer season) if we stopped consuming- but placing a higher value on what we create rather than what we buy (branding) may produce a culture with better self-image and self-esteem.
