Jump<\/a>\u00a0was supposed to have disappeared by now. He learned he had H.I.V. in 1986, when he was 26 years old and AIDS was a death sentence.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>They all survived longer than expected. That happy confluence has yielded \u201cFading Ads of New York City,\u201d a new 224-page book from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.historypress.net\/\">History Press<\/a>. It showcases Mr. Jump\u2019s loving record of hand-painted \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/11\/05\/nyregion\/05signs.html\" target=\"_blank\">ghost signs<\/a>\u201d that lasted long enough to go from eyesore to historical asset. A\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/store-locator.barnesandnoble.com\/event\/3124533\">book signing<\/a>\u00a0is scheduled Thursday at the Barnes &amp; Noble on the Upper West Side. \u00a0&#8211; David W.
