Keal\u2019s Carriage Manufactory Repairing\u201d \u2014 at 47th and Broadway \u2014 was painted on the side of a brick building in 1874, back when horses galloped through Gotham.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The billboard, now hidden at the southwest corner of Broadway that has Roxy Delicatessen on its ground floor, is featured in Brooklyn elementary-school teacher Frank Jump\u2019s new book, \u201cFading Ads of New York City\u201d (The History Press), out this week.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Jump photographed the \u201cghost sign,\u201d as many of the old ads are called, when it was briefly exposed in 1998.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"intext_area_middle\">\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/frankjump.com\/016.html\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9297\" title=\"20.1n014.oldads1.c.ta--300x300\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fadingad.com\/fadingadblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/20.1n014.oldads1.c.ta-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C294&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div>PHOTOS: FRANK JUMP<\/div>\n<div><strong>WHOA!<\/strong>\u00a0Survivors of a simpler time, these ads in Times Square (pictured) and 19th-century customers who depended on horses for transportation.<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fadingad.com\/fadingadblog\/?p=8773\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9298\" title=\"20.1n014.oldads2.c.ta--300x300\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fadingad.com\/fadingadblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/20.1n014.oldads2.c.ta-300x300.jpg?resize=300%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p><em>An adjacent building at 1567 Broadway was torn down before a new building was erected and connected to the towering\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/t\/W_Hotel\" target=\"_blank\">W Hotel<\/a>\u00a0that currently stands behind it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The city\u2019s oldest still-visible ad is in Chelsea, the book says. Painted in white on a red-brick building at 109 W. 17th St. around 1900, the ad sells \u201cCarriages, Coupes and Hansoms.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Jump, who teaches at PS 119 Amersfort School, has documented 5,000 ads since 1997.
