SAVE NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I read about <a href=\"http:\/\/vanishingnewyork.blogspot.com\/2014\/11\/derobertis.html\" target=\"_blank\">DeRobertis closing in Jeremiah&#8217;s Vanishing NY<\/a>\u00a0in November of last year, I somehow was not surprised. Not because I&#8217;m a jinx and I took pics of the interior in May of that year, although &#8211; I wouldn&#8217;t recommend you letting me take pics of your new home, your wedding or newborn. Jump<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I frequently pass <a href=\"http:\/\/bklynr.com\/empty-places\/\" target=\"_blank\">Richard Yee&#8217;s ghost<\/a> that still lays fallow on Avenue U and think when will this be replaced by at best, a local grocer and at worst, another Rite-Aid. We can use another good Chinese restaurant but that would be wishful thinking.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 595px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fadingad.com\/blog\/2015\/sheepshead-bay-yees.jpg?resize=580%2C433\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"433\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Frank H. Jump<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Many stores we frequent in Queens like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rudysbakeryandcafe.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rudy&#8217;s Cafe in Ridgewood<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; and in Brooklyn like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.3guysfrombrooklyn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Three Guys on 65th Street<\/a> where we buy our fresh produce &#8211; are small businesses whose doors remain open because faithful neighborhood consumers keep them alive. If you like a business in your neighborhood and want them to remain there, shop there. That&#8217;s why we buy all of our milk and ice-cream and pastries at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fadingad.com\/fadingadblog\/2008\/03\/10\/lords-bakery-no-worry-in-the-shadows-of-target-flatbush-junction\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lords Bakery at Flatbush Junction<\/a>, because I don&#8217;t want to see them have to close their doors. With the rising rents and pressure from mega-stores popping up almost everywhere and never-ending changing trends &#8211; the fate of the small business almost seems inevitable.
