Abdulfattah<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to the website <em><a href=\"http:\/\/foundampersands.blogspot.com\/2011\/01\/trowel-square.html\" target=\"_blank\">Found Ampersands<\/a>,<\/em> the Trowel &amp; Square Ballroom <em>&#8220;was operated by the Order of Eastern Star, the Female part of the Masons.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>Looking to the right of the ballroom&#8217;s sign, you can see the Mason&#8217;s sign for Queen Esther, Grand Chapter.<\/p>\n<p>Some searches also reveal that up until December 2012, some hip-hop events were advertised on Facebook that were hosted at the ballroom.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 595px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.fadingad.com\/blog\/guests\/iman-r-abdulfattah\/Postcard-trowel-square.jpg?resize=580%2C859\" width=\"580\" height=\"859\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google search<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Also at Scouting NY, are some great interior shots of the ballroom, within what is now the Salvation Army thriftstore, which has apparently lost its lease.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scoutingny.com\/?p=7039\" target=\"_blank\">The Mystery Ballroom on East 125th Street<\/a> &#8211; Scouting NY &#8211; Nov 4, 2013<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of the oddest things I found about the ballroom was a reference in an April 2011 online article about child adoption in UK&#8217;s The Spectator called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spectator.co.uk\/features\/6883223\/harlem-renaissance\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Harlem Renaissance<\/em><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>The first thing I see is a glimmer of Harlem\u2019s happy past: a painted sign for the Trowel and Square Ballroom, a remnant from the days of Billie Holiday, Bojangles and 80 per cent employment.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Happy past?
