Jump<\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>HARRY CIMMET \u2014 From newsboy on the\u00a0streets to one of the leading merchants of\u00a0Nanticoke in less than thirty years is the\u00a0proud record of Harry Cimmet, whose department store is one of the finest examples of\u00a0its class in Eastern Pennsylvania. From the\u00a0inception of the business he had gradually\u00a0enlarged his establishment, in order to take\u00a0care of the constantly growing trade that\u00a0has come to him through honest endeavor\u00a0to please and to give full value to all. His\u00a0activities in civic affairs, in philanthropic\u00a0work, in business, financial and fraternal\u00a0organizations have brought him into intimate\u00a0contact with his fellow-citizens, to mutual\u00a0advantage and profit. Of pleasing personality and gifted with a keen intellect, he has\u00a0gathered to himself a host of friends in the\u00a0business and social circles of Nanticoke and\u00a0vicinity, who regard him as a citizen of\u00a0unusual worth to their community.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Mr. Cimmet is of Austrian parentage, born\u00a0in Chicago, Illinois, April 15, 1884. His parents were Joseph and Molly Cimmet, both\u00a0born in Austria, who emigrated to America\u00a0and first settled in Chicago, later removing\u00a0to Plymouth, Pennsylvania, thence to Wilkes-Barre.\u00a0<\/em><em>Harry Cimmet was educated in the public\u00a0schools of Wilkes-Barre and went to work,\u00a0when ten years of age, as a newsboy after\u00a0school. At sixteen years of age he began\u00a0in earnest, entering the clothing establishment of Charles Finberg and Company, in\u00a0Wilkes-Barre, where he remained for three\u00a0years, then going to his father, who was conducting a men&#8217;s furnishing goods store in\u00a0Plymouth. He gravitated from this into the\u00a0wholesale liquor business, establishing himself in Avoca, where he conducted this enterprise for two years. It displeased him and,\u00a0in 1909 he came to Nanticoke, where he\u00a0established himself in the business of general merchandise at No. 7 East Main Street.\u00a0In a short time that place became too\u00a0cramped for his growing trade and he\u00a0enlarged the premises to meet the demand.\u00a0His store later became a complete department enterprise and is now one of the leaders\u00a0of Nanticoke, with Hoor space twenty-two\u00a0by two hundred feet. He is one of the most\u00a0progressive business men of the city, a\u00a0charter member and immediate Past President Kiwanis International, a director and\u00a0vice-president of the Miners&#8217; Trust Company\u00a0of Nanticoke. and actively associated with the\u00a0Visiting Nurses&#8217; organization and the Association for the Relief of Crippled Children.\u00a0He attends the Nanticoke Synagogue, and is\u00a0a member of Temple Israel at Wilkes-Barre.\u00a0He married, in June, 1906, Dora Morris,\u00a0daughter of Jacob and Bessie Morris, of Kingston. Their children are: 1. Sylvia, a graduate of Bloomsburg Norman College and now\u00a0a student at the University of Pennsylvania,\u00a0where she is preparing for an educational\u00a0career. 2. Isadore, a graduate of Nanticoke\u00a0High School, who has entered the University\u00a0of Pennsylvania, taking the Wharton business course. 3. Harold, student at Nanticoke High School.
