As a prolific\u00a0blogger<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and well-known New York City writer, Jump\u2019s work has commanded the attention of the\u00a0New York Times<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Leonard Lopate Show (WNYC)<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0New York Post<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and numerous other\u00a0publications<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

From its iconic skyline to its side alleys, New York City is perpetually being built on the debris of the past. But a movement to preserve the city\u2019s vanishing landscapes has emerged.\u00a0For nearly twenty years, Jump has been documenting the fading ads that are visible, but less often seen, all over New York. Disappearing from the sides of buildings or hidden by new construction, these signs are remnants of lost eras of New York\u2019s life, according to Jump:<\/p>\n

These massive vintage mural advertisements were hand-painted on brick buildings throughout all\u00a0five boroughs,\u00a0touting all-purpose medicines, horseshoeing services, cigars and more in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.\u00a0In a city changed by endless development, the iconic ads\u00a0helped shape an unforgettable urban landscape for New Yorkers who gazed up at them from the streets. \u00a0The ads, preserved through Jump\u2019s evocative photography, \u00a0uniquely provide a window into New York\u2019s past.<\/p>\n

Jump, who has been living with AIDS since 1986, draws thoughtful comparisons between the fading ads and his own life while offering a meditation on how both have refused to succumb to the pressures of time.<\/p>\n

Complete with an introduction by world-renowned visual anthropologist Andrew Irving,\u00a0Fading Ads<\/em>\u00a0pays tribute to the colossal graphic landmarks as part of an ongoing effort to foster interest towards their significance.<\/p>\n
