AS A CHILD WHO GREW UP IN QUEENS, I REMEMBER BENSON BURGERS AS THE WHITE CASTLE WE KNOW OF TODAY. I WAS EXCITED WHEN I SEEN A FADED SIGN ON A BUILDING ON MERRICK BLVD.
I remember Benson Burger on N. Conduit Blvd as one of the largest, juciest burgers ever. It had lettuce, tomato, onion and more mayo than is currently PC. White Castle us a chain that’s been around for decades – Benson Burger was one of a kind. White Castle’s tasty little squares cost $.12.
Home of the Hobie…I use to buy Burgers here way back in 1969 through 1973.I still remember what they taste like……Yes they were that good.!!!Juicy and delicious. I lived on Glenmore one block from Pitkin.Used to go to the movies on Liberty.TSS stores were the Toy r Us of back then. Palisades Amusement park was the great adventure. and Bensons burgers was the best burgers in my life. I remember the Hobo walking with a pole on his shoulders and bag hanging on the end…..Those were the days when Pizzerias were only own by Italians and the Fourth of July was celebrated like no other Holiday…….Did I mention how fantastic Holloween was back then?
Well Said Xavier. I lived on Pitkin and Montauk.
now i know i’m old…i faintly remember benson burger at two locations: one on the corner of linden blvd &merrick blvd and one off the corner of merrick blvd and farmers blvd across from where TSS was at (now western beef).
I remember the one on Conduit Blvd 0near Pitkin_ in East New York. And I know I’m old. Didn’6t know there were others.
My father Norman Margolies owned Benson Burgers. I would really like to give him the picture of the sign.
