Andy Zuckerman has managed Flatbush Junction’s Lords Bakery for 30 years since he graduated from Brooklyn College. Andy has seen many customers coming into the bakery this week with Target bags. Zuckerman, when asked if the “mom and pop” local businesses might suffer from the opening of the new Target, said he thought perhaps the retail clothing stores would feel the pinch, but as far as baked goods, they can’t beat Lords’ Red Velvet Cake.

too bad Lords can’t make a “fresh” photo birthday cake.

After two separate purchases with the same result of stale cakes, i’ll try my luck at the Target.

Went to targert with my daughter & grandson on 3/9/08. When we were ready to leave, the elevator was broke & we had to go through the garage and walk around & around to get out. Great 1st day for us.

I’ve been getting my sugar fix at Lords for 20+ years, no place I’ve ever tried holds a candle to it! I’ll buy my clothing at Target, but my cakes will always be from Lords…

  4. Jeffrey says:

Target might be the place for clothes or groceries, but it will never beat Lords’ selection of fine baked goods, or personable employees. As a long-time patron of Lords, all I can say is “let them eat cake”!

I am glad to see a picture of Andy . I was his counselor at Camp Roosevelt about 40 years ago. We are planning a reunion in Sept and hope that he can come

I grew up down the street from Lords and remember going in for a buttered roll and a hot chocolate. And I’ve never forgotten the strawberry shortcake that I had for every birthday, from my first up until we moved out of the neighborhood. I’m so glad that it is still around!

Well, I have been going to Lord’s Bakery since I was a little girl. now I am 58years old. We would walk from Ave D and E.26th st. to buy the best Baked goods. I have since moved to Virginia and I still miss Lord’s. Whenever my Daughter goes to Brooklyn she makes a point of getting me lots of Linzer Tarts with the rasberry filling. They have not changed and are still the best in the world. Only one time I remember when I bought one..the filling was changed. I told Andy about it a long time ago. All was back to normal after a week or so. Our Holidays here in Virginia are good, however, Lord’s Bakery is always talked about in a wonderful way…really miss it all.

I worked at Lords Bakery while going to Brooklyn College in the 80’s. I always loved working with Andy. He was a great manager and he always took care of me. I haven’t been down to the Junction in a long time, but always remember how my mom would send me into the bakery for rye bread and corn bread when I was a little girl. I could barely reach the top of the high counter back then! My cousin Laurie worked in the bakery for many years after I left. Also my friend Karl worked there. Good memories in a fading neighborhood. What a bummer that the whole neighborhood has gone to the dogs. Too bad.

I always liked going into Lords for cookies and birthday cakes since the 1960’s. I would still be going there, if I didn’t have to walk down that part of the Junction that is now Scuz-land!
I now go to Aliotta’s on Avenue N and E. 46th St. where it’s still a nice area and hasn’t been “ruined” yet.
