DON’T BUY VIZIO LCD TV

After three years, the unit won’t turn on. Vizio customer service refers you to an 800 number that charges half of what the TV was purchased for to repair.

BUILT IN OBSOLESCENCE.

Did you have an extended warranty? Can’t expect a company to fix tv’s for everyone forever. Warranties are there for a reason? If you had an extended and they still wouldn’t, that is messed up then.

I find the referral to a repair company that charges one third of what you paid for the unit a crime. If there is a problem with a particular model number, there should be an option to buy the part directly from VIZIO with instructions on how to replace. This is not acceptable.

Companies can’t keep parts forever. They didn’t give you any other options but the repair? no where to find the parts and do it yourself? Most companies don’t provide instructions on how to perform your own service on the equipment. Kinda a rule of thumb for most.

Mark, from Sioux City – after reading the many complaints about Vizio products that died in and around three years after purchase, I am highly suspect of the quality of their product. Three years is NOT forever.

My thing with online reviews is that you can literally type and brand and any problem and get a million hits. Plus you almost never get the full story from anyone online. They only want to tell the part of the story that fits their needs. People blow issues way out of proportion. My theory is that if You buy something, the smart consumer reads the warrant and knows something about it before buying the product. I did some checking though and you can buy parts from a Vizio partner site, http://www.vizparts.com. they won’t likely tell you how to crack the tv open, but if You planned to do the repair yourself, this is something a person should know something about or leave it to someone who does.

I fix computers regularly. You claim companies can’t keep parts forever. Three years is not forever Mark. Something must be said about product reliability and service.

There seems to be some actions being taken by Vizio to assist me. Will keep you posted.

I’ve had my Vizio ’32 in. now for about three years, no trouble ever grreat tv, could be just a bad switch, or whatever, thing’s do break down, my first stereo last 22 years, with no problems (JVC)

  7. fadingad says:

Stereo? What’s that? LOL. Older technology was built to last. Today’s technology is disposable. At these prices, it shouldn’t be. Good luck with your Vizio. Speaking of old technology, my mother’s AKAI portable just finally kicked the bucket after 27 years.

I think you’re just looking for a reason to complain. Can’t even begin to compare old and new tech and say old stuff lasts. Old stuff was around for 50+ years, where as LCD tech is quite new comparatively.

  8. fadingad says:

I guess in your own words Mark, old technology lasted forever.

LATEST UPDATE: I was offered a factory return for a model that is an upgrade from what I had bought for a fraction of the price. Not bad. Still have this 32″ model to be fixed. Seems a shame to throw out. Will scout around for the best repair price and keep y’all posted.

Our Vizio 42″ which is about 3 years old – recently the picture has changed to a ghost(ish) picture quality. It’s been like this for over a month and swapping out cable boxes hasn’t made any change.

    1. fadingad says:

Call Vizio and raise a stink. They wouldn’t replace ours but sold us a refurb for a song.
