That’s sounds yummy. Must be a recipe somewhere for Vincent’s Tomato Pie, or something like that.

My Enzo would eat tomatoes in anything. But then again, that’s Italian!

This is the old Vincent’s Cafe on Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia. It was a staple in the 49th Street neighborhood back when it was all Italian. My parents went there all the time as kids for their tomato pies back in the ’60s. Vincent’s Cafe closed in 1973.
    49th Street–Gone forever, never forgotten!

Wow…I remember this place as a kid…and I didn’t even grow up in Philly. My grandmother lived around the corner on Kershaw street. We visited her once a year. Vincents had a window and you could watch the guys tossing the pizza in the air. I can seriously still remember this pizza. It was really good. It was also a local watering hole going back to WW2. My mother used to tell me about the local girls and GIs going there, drinking, eating clams. I think the oven was “seasoned” after all of those years. That pizza was incredible. Across the street from Our Lady of Angels. No more little italy there. I’ll bet the Bocce ball club is closed too. Good memories.
